Exciting news in the Kingdom!

In my first post I mentioned how I am a huge fan of travel. I love to travel, and I feel like everyone needs to travel at some point in their lives. This could be travelling to the next town over or to the farthest city you can imagine. The important thing is getting out of your bubble and seeing something new or, equally important, seeing something old from a new perspective. A lot of the confidence I have in myself has come from being able to navigate airports, make my way around strange places, and survive being homesick on my own. I’ve been told I get a bit preachy when it comes to telling people to travel. I have absolutely no idea what they’re talking about.

This whole blog thing is coming together at an exciting time since I am not only living abroad and finishing my education, but I am also likely to leave Europe at the end of this year. It sort of puts the pressure on in terms of seeing what I haven’t gotten around to in the last 3 ½ years. The best part about being here is that it only takes an hour on a plane to be in a completely different world. That being said, finding time to take off school to go run around has not been entirely easy.

All of this business brings us to the ‘exciting’ part. As it turns out, I have three months between when I hand in my dissertation at the end of the school year and when my graduation ceremony will actually take place this autumn. During that time I want to see as much of Europe as I can in one go before I head back to the states. Now I have never done any sort of longer-term travel before. The longest trip I’ve probably ever taken has been in the realm of two or three weeks. Having the time to wander, go with the flow, and travel at my own pace is gosh darn appealing. Since I am nothing if not a conglomeration of contradictions, I am also really into lists and planning and schedules, so expect a fair bit of both.

The general idea is to hit up spots in most of central Europe including Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, and a few other countries. It is ambitious, I know, but there are just so many cool places I want to see…

Moral of the story: keep watching this space! Blogging about this allows me to share my experience with you while simultaneously keeping me accountable. There is definitely no chickening out now! I will to be able to share the process with all of you including plans, itineraries, hiccups – the whole works. I am always open to tips and advice any of you may have, and hopefully this will either entertain you or give you some ideas of your own.

Are there any must-see destinations you know of in that general area? Or even here in the UK? Please let me know!
